— Captain Jack Sparrow

The Prison Dog was a canine employed to guard the jailer's keys at Port Royal prison in Fort Charles. Characters usually refer him as "the dog with the keys", and was once called Poochie by Pintel.

Biography[]

Now, where is that dog with the keys?

— Governor Weatherby Swann

The dog appears to be just a mutt of some sort that may have likely been the pet of the Fort Charles jailer.

In Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the dog first appears in the jail as several imprisoned pirates try in vain to call him over.

Though eventually when the Black Pearl attacks, Jack Sparrow himself tries the same ploy - to no avail.

Later, during Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, the dog later appears with Pintel and Ragetti. Apparently they were able to persuade the dog into helping them escape prison and a certain hanging, when no other pirate was able to.

However, when the Pelegosto cannibals pursued the crew of the Black Pearl, the poor dog was left behind. The natives put the dog on their throne, believing him to be their new god and, of course, planning a big dinner in his future. They named it "Poochie".

But the dog would somehow survive and appear at the Brethren Court in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - where he now has the task of guarding Captain Teague's keys to the Pirata Codex.

Game Notes[]

  • When the player joins the game, in the tutorial, the dog can be seen in one of the prisons of Rambleshack. Players can see him later on Outcast Isle, though its difficult and tricky to find. There is a glitch to go to him.
  • On August 30th, a new potion called Summon Dog was released to the game due to Pirates Online's closure. The potion would summon a dog which appears to be the prison dog itself.
  • The dog originally appeared in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, where a scurvy bunch of pirate prisoners try and lure him with a bribe of a bone. This exact moment would later appear on-screen in The Curse of the Black Pearl.
