Do you have a yearning to defeat lots and lots of those undead boneheads? If so, now's the time. Why? Thinning out Jolly's ranks is one way to slow the invasions and weaken his hold in the Caribbean. So why not make a sport of it?

Piratefightingundead

Help even the odds during the next invasion - defeat as many skeletons as you can!

Much like our popular Strongest Guild Competition, every Pirate must try to defeat as many undead skeletons as they can! It's fun but also, you'll be doing all the Pirates of the Caribbean a service by evening the odds in the next invasion. If you experienced the invasions - you know - there's just too many of them storming the beaches! So start planning today - and may the best Pirate win!
What: Slay a Skeleton Competition When: Nov. 12 - Nov.17
The Details: We'll rank the top 30 Pirates. At the end of the competition we will recognize the Pirate who has defeated the most skeletons and he (or she) will have the honor of calling themselves the Skeleton Slayer of the Caribbean!

The winner of the competition and final standings will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 19.

November 10th - Calling All Guilds - to Beat Back the Invasion!

Invasions haven't been going as well as we had hoped. What's needed are more strong guilds to help lead the charges - the same guilds whose ranks are filled with hearty, fighting pirates! Now those are pirates to be reckoned with!

CaptainWalterwinking

Captain Walter encourages you to prepare your guild for battle!

Calling McRaging, The Guardians, The Emerald Sea Gang, Black Bart's Krewe, Hawk's Talons, Fortitude Piratus, Brave Gladiators, Crew Quarters, Phoenix Rizing, Shining Fellowship, Loyal to the End, The Seasfurys, The Savvy, Sinker's Revenge, Ocean Gods, Retribution Iz Near, and Tha Warriors and all the guilds who competed in the Strongest Guild Competition a few months back!

Spread the word, mates! All Guilds are necessary to defeat the menace of Jolly's Undead Army! Get them into the battle before the invasions happen again because, they may have subsided, but the attacks are not over. Now is a good time to sharpen your skills and plot a sound strategy. And the best strategy always includes strong Pirate guilds leading the way. If ALL the guilds don't join in the battle, we may ALL be serving in Jolly's Ranks.

November 3rd - Gold from a Ghostly Captain

Captain Cromwell haunts areas of Port Royal trying to make good in death what he did wrong in life. To release his spirit from the bonds of earth he must repay gold he stole that was intended to free an innocent man. Read more about Captain Cromwell and John Moses.

Cromwell Ghost

Cromwell must repay the gold he stole to free his spirit from the bonds of earth.

Captain Cromwell now roams the earth looking for 'good, worthy Pirates'. If you are one, tell Cromwell when you see him, mention the name of John Moses, or tell him 'I've come for Innocent John.' Cromwell will then give you a secret code that can be redeemed

for gold.

  1. To redeem your gold code follow these steps: Open a chat window in game by pressing [ENTER].
  2. In the chat window type /CODE followed by a space, then type the 21 character code you were given by Cromwell.
  3. Press [ENTER] to redeem the code. You'll get an in-game pop-up message confirming the code worked and telling you how much gold you got.

Example: /CODE TBTWYZLLARRNVLPCKFE22

Please note: When you're given a code, we suggest taking a screenshot (F9) of the code for future reference. Since some characters look similar (for example 5 and S) they may be copied incorrectly if you write the code down. If you write your code down, double-check it to make sure you've written down the code correctly. Codes are for one-time use. Once a code is used it cannot be used again. Codes are not case sensitive.

November 2nd - The Muertos Moon Sets

It struck without warning - the light of the Muertos Moon - and suddenly you were fighting against friends, guild and crewmates. Don't be sorry mates... it was the curse. You couldn't help yourself!

Muertos moon

Now that the full moon has gone away, so have Jolly's tricks and terrors... or have they? Since Jolly was forced to retreat so many times, he turned his vengeance to the moon, and cursed all the pirates to fight against once another. That didn't work either, so what will happen next? One thing is for sure... Jolly will return. Count on it. Don't imagine that because you fought him off this time he's given up. Stay ready, and pray for more brave pirates to join the battle.

October 29th - The Curse of the Muertos Moon Returns

The tides are not the only thing affected by the full moon on All Hallows' Eve. Jolly Roger has worked his magic to bring a horrible curse to the Caribbean this Halloween Weekend! Any Pirate on land that is struck by moonlight will be cursed! While those that are at sea or inside are safe, for a time. Read more about the Curse of the
Muertos Moon.

Curse moon chart

Pirates, note the times the curse will strike and beware the light of the full moon... Jolly Roger's voodoo magic is already working its way through the Caribbean. We've seen many Pirates hypnotized by a strange trance that comes over them without warning! To see if you're affected, open a Chat Window and type: /zombie

October 27th - Ghost Stories of the Caribbean

Ghost gm lore image2

Ghostly figures have been spotted roaming the Caribbean. Constance Sorrow haunts the swamps of Tortuga, while Old Sooty and Captain Cromwell might show up on Port Royal or a passing Public Ship. These ghosts all have a story. It's up to you to unravel the mystery and help settle their wayward spirits.

Have you encountered a ghost? Report your sightings here!

We're working to resolve issues that have already been reported, but if you find any issue related to gameplay while on the Test Server please report it here.

September 29th - Casa de Muertos Quest - Wrap Up

Many a brave Pirate took on Captain Rott's challenge and completed the Casa de Muertos Quest - Captain Rott and crew send their thanks. While some pirates were a bit suspicious about the "jobs" they were asked to complete, your desire for gold was stronger. Many, many pirates completed the quest, and now it be too late to
alter course...

Captain Rott - trustworthy? We think not...

Before heading back out to sea Captain Rott was heard to say, "Pirates from all over the Caribbean helped us prepare Port Royal for his arrival. Our boss is quite pleased." Now that the Casa de Muertos Quest has ended, rumors are spreading throughout the Caribbean - who is this mysterious merchant that hired Captain Rott - and why is he coming to the Caribbean? We'll find out very soon mates - that much is certain.

Did you finish the quest, if you didn't why not? And what do you think will happen now?

September 10th - Compass Points & Other Updates

We hope you're enjoying the latest game updates, exploring the incredible new cave environments and working your way to Level 50! But we've made many improvements to the game and want to explain some of these new features you may have not noticed:

  • Compass Improvements

In response to players who sometimes find themselves lost in the Caribbean we've improved the Compass. Now the Compass is now fixed on land, while it rotates when you're at sea. We did this so Pirates can find their current location and plot a path easier when using the island and cave mini-maps (hold the F8 key to display mini-maps). To change the Compass settings, click Options on the Pirate selection screen (or press F7 in-game and select Game Options), then click Interface. Here you can change your Compass settings so it will rotate with the camera on land or sea. The choice is yours!

Screenshot compass options

Change your compass settings from the Interface Option

  • Weapons Skill Increases

Weapons are now mastered at Level 30, but once you reach that level Pirates can still earn reputation towards their overall Notoriety meter.

  • New Screenshot Location

Taking a screenshot of your adventure? You'll now find your screenshot stored in a Pirates Directory sub folder called 'Screenshots.'

Do you have a tip you'd like to share with the rest of the Pirates Community? Do you have a question or comment about the latest update and new game features? Share it with us here.

August 4th - Pirates That Made a Difference

Pirates from all over the islands did their part to help their guild rank in our first ever Strongest Guild Competition! We salute all the Pirates that participated! But remember guild size isn't everything - it's a Pirates individual effort that truly makes a difference. Take a look at the list below, these adventurers went above and beyond the call of duty and helped put their guilds on top!

  • Guilds whose guild masters had serious account violations in the past 60 days, were disqualified and not eligible for final ranking - because of the actions of those guild masters, your guild was removed from the final ranking list. The guild masters with account violations were also removed from the final strongest Pirates ranking.

July 31st - Strongest Guild Competition

After a week of hard fought battles the islands are a safer place - thanks to Pirates from all over the Caribbean! Pirates came out in force to show their strength and skill - and for those guilds that placed in the final top 40, congratulations!

Thanks to all the guilds that participated in the competition - in many cases it wasn't the size of the guild that put a guild on top, it was the efforts of individual guild members who got out there and truly did their part! Take for example Pirates, like Invincible Warlordof McRaging who defeated a whopping 106,609 enemies during the competition! Our hat is also off to Beth Macstack and Benjamin Warmenace of The Guardians, Molly Bluesilver of Black Bart's Krewe, and Rosa of the Emerald Sea Gang! Outstanding work Pirates, again, THANKS TO ALL THAT PARTICIPATED!

These guilds will be called up to help fight for freedom in future world battles - so guilds, keep your sword and your skills sharp mates! Here now are the final rankings, these are the 40 Strongest Pirate Guilds

  • in the Caribbean!

  • Guilds whose guild masters had serious account violations in the past 60 days, were disqualified and not eligible for final ranking ? because of the actions of those guild masters, your guild was removed from the final ranking list. The guild masters with account violations were also removed from the final strongest Pirates ranking.

July 17th - Calling All Testers - Test Updates

News test server

Just released to the Test Server - a new update to Pirates Online! If you have access to the Test Server, log on now and check out these new features and enhancements:

- Revive Option! This new feature allows Pirates the ability to revive other Pirates and keep them from being carted off to jail by the Navy when pirates are knocked "unconscious" during battle.

- Ship Holds have also been expanded - thanks to the hardworking shipwrights, now all ships can carry more cargo!

- Basic members! Now play in full screen from day one!

- Players can now skip the tutorial after creating a Pirate.

These and many other improvements to the game have just been introduced on Test and are coming to the Live servers by the end of the month. Pirates, please give us your feedback regarding the Revive Option as well as any other features you may have tested ... the development team is eagerly awaiting your feedback!

July 17th - Most Enemies Defeated Competition

We're looking for a few good Pirates. No actually we're looking for an entire guild of them. Strong Pirates, with a stout heart, able minds ... who are we kidding, your guild needs to be tough as nails and ready to take on the most ferocious challenge the Caribbean can offer. We need strong guilds to help turn the tide, to help face down Jolly Roger, the EITC and whatever other mayhem may be coming our way -- does your guild have what it takes?

When: July 17, and running until July 26

What: We'll be looking for the guild that have defeated the most enemies, sunk the most ships and beat back the baddest baddies. Of course, larger guilds have an edge -- so if you're not in a strong guild, remember, you can join with smaller guilds or a larger one if you don't think your current guild can get the job done. Your reward, Recognition mate! You'll be featured here on the Pirates website and your guild will become legends in the Caribbean! Plus, you could play a part in future world-changing battles!

PLEASE NOTE: Competing Guild Masters and Guild Officers must not have any account violations for the past 60 days. The guild should also have at least 75% of their members in good standing, with no account violations.

July 14th - Pirates Online Community

For the past several months, the Pirates Online development team has been focused on improving game performance and repairing the foundation of Pirates Online. This was important because before we add anything to Pirates Online, the game must be able to support it. Read more about what we've been working on and why.

What do you think of the improvements to the player experience? Are you ready for new features and content, or do we still need to focus on game performance?

July 14th - Digging For New Treasures

Ship Customization. The Kraken. Loot & Inventory. Pirate Lairs. New Islands. New Quests. We have gotten a lot of good ideas from you, our players. Now which of these are you looking forward to the most?

July 7th - Keep to the Code

More Pirates are joining us in the Caribbean everyday! Just a reminder mates, ALL Pirates are expected to live by the code - the Pirates Online Code of Conduct.

Pirates that don't follow these rules can not only be removed from the game (in some cases permanently) but they also loose the chance for special opportunities, like being selected for the Player Spotlight or a free account upgrade*. Your behavior could also negatively affect your guild if they are being considered for the Guild Spotlight.**

Keep your account in good standing, follow these tips:

  • Pirates of all ages sail these waters, so always mind your tongue. Inappropriate topics outlined in the Code of Conduct are not acceptable and could get you removed from the game if you discuss them.

  • Never ask for or give your personal information to anyone in the game or online. This includes your phone number, email or home address - It's just not safe.

  • Don't harass other players. Show your fellow Pirate brethren some respect and treat others as you would like to be treated.

Let's make the Caribbean a welcoming place for all Pirates by keeping to the code!

  • We sometimes select Pirates at random for free account upgrades. If you are selected for an upgrade, we will review your account to make sure it's in good standing, if it's not, you will not be eligible for the opportunity.

    • Guilds being considered for the Guild Spotlight should have Guild Masters and Officers without account violations for the past 60 days. The guild should also have at least 75% of their members in good standing, with no account violations.

July 2nd - Celebrate Your Pirate Freedom

May 15th - Keep to the Code Mates!

Recently the EITC have been seen interrogating Pirates! We're glad to see that Pirates from all over the Caribbean are getting into the story -- some of you have even sided with the EITC as spies!

Role-playing is great, but in any situation, always be respectful to your fellow Pirates! Harassing or threatening Pirates that don't want to role-play is not only rude, but could get you removed from the game. If you want to confront other Pirates and role play as an agent of the EITC, take the action into PVP and respect Pirates that decline your offer. Read the Pirates Code of Conduct - avoid actions that could cause your account to
be suspended.

May 5th - Mother's Day Tattoos

April 29th - Guild Spotlight

Gm logo update
A guild is a group of Pirates united for a common cause, working together guilds can be a powerful force. The Marceline guild is a band of scoundrels, rascals and knaves led by GM Captain Walter. The Marceline guild was the first to warn Pirates of Jolly Roger's Curse, the guild also helped organize the Founder Brethren and other Pirates of the Caribbean in the recent attacks on EITC ships. What has your guild done lately?

April 17th - State of the Caribbean

Icon state of carib

Three months ago, we whared our plans for the year. We told you how, based on your feedback, we were making improvements to the game and why. Having just gotten through a large portion of this work and with your feedback in hand, we're plotting a course for the future.

April 17th - EITC Stands Down

Icon eitc2
Recent raids against EITC ships have caused the EITC to re-think future attacks on Pirates and their strongholds. Now Lord Beckett is resorting to other methods to intimidate and challenge the Pirates of the Caribbean, recently EITC Black Guard's have been spotted in Port Royal interrogating Pirates about the recent attacks on the EITC! These EITC Black Guards do not seem to be affected by weapons or magic, leaving many to believe that the EITC may be now sided with a much more powerful force!

Don't back down now Pirates, continue to take the fight directly to the EITC -- our freedom as Pirates depends on it!

Will you continue the fight?

April 17th - Caribbean Spies

Icon spy
There be many rumors around the Caribbean, the latest one claims Pirates are being recruited to spy for the EITC! With promises of grand rewards for informing the EITC of the whereabouts of Captain Walter of the Marceline guild (and other Pirates responsible for the recent EITC ship attacks), agents of the EITC are looking for Pirates that will side with the Company!

Beware Pirates, remember the promises of the EITC are hollow and any agreement with these devils will end badly! Properly warned ye be!

Have you been interrogated by the EITC or asked to spy for the Company? Report your encounter here...

April 17th - EITC Tax Man

Hereby be notified that the East India Trading Company will soon levy a tax on all Pirates of the Caribbean to make up for recent loses of EITC ships and fleets patrolling off Padres Del Fuego. Furthermore, the Company decries that all Pirates involved in the attacks on these EITC ships will be brought up on charges. If convicted of these charges, the Pirate charged and therefore held as guilty against the Company and his majesty's service, will be condemned for their crimes.

April 17th - Basic Access Accounts

Icon hardtimes
Are you a Basic Access player looking for an account upgrade? You're in luck! This month we're selecting 20 Basic Access accounts for a 3 month Unlimited Access upgrade. We're looking for players like yourself that play frequently and love the game! If you're selected for an account upgrade we'll contact you via email -- so make sure your contact information is correct!

April 8th - Keep To The Code

Aye, Pirates we be, but we still must live by the code, and by code we mean the Pirates Online Code of Conduct.

Icon qa

These simple ground rules help protect all Pirates. With the code in mind, here are a few tips to keep your account in good standing:

  • Being rude or harassing other players is not only disrespectful to your fellow Pirates, but against the Pirates Online Code of Conduct and could get removed from the game permanently. Treat your fellow Pirates as you would like to be treated.
  • Although our dictionary does not allow it, bad language is never acceptable in Pirates Online. Using sound alike words in place of an actual word (for bad language) is just as bad and could also get you removed from the game.
  • Speaking of code, also remember, modifying or hacking the game is never allowed. Any use of a third party program that modifies the game or modifying the code yourself will result in your account being permanently terminated.
  • Never reveal your personal information. We don't allow Pirates to say numbers for a reason. Revealing your real name, phone number, address, email or password is not only not safe, but could get you removed from the game.

Read the Code of Conduct - protect yourself and your account.

April 8th - Padres Del Fuego and Other Updates!

Join other Pirates right now as they explore the entirely NEW Padres Del Fuego! The island was redesigned to address performance issues many of our players were having. In addition to the island redesign, we also added other improvements:

  • The Reputation Meter now has progress indicators so you can tell how much more experience you need to gain before you level up.
  • Completed Quests now display your reward after completion, no more wondering what you received or if you properly completed the Quest.
  • Plus, the ESC key will now bring up a menu to exit the game. Click here for a list of
    all the improvements.

What do you think of the new Padres and the other updates? Have you had a chance to tour the new town? Tell us what you think! As with any new update, there may be bugs or issues. If you see any problems, report them to us. We will work quickly to fix these issues.

April 3rd - Padres Del Fuego and Other Updares on Test!

News test server

We've just placed an updated build of the game on our Test Server and we're calling all testers to test it out! The update includes a re-designed Padres Del Fuego as well as other game improvements based on recent feedback we've received.

This is a new update, as of April 2, 2009! We've fixed many bugs you've previously reported but we need your help to test these new improvements. If you've already seen this new update on the Test Server, we'd like to take a moment to thank you and remind you to please send us your feedback. If you haven't, and you have Test Server access, please log on, check it out and tell us what you think.

We continue to improve Pirates Online everyday! Thanks for playing.

April 1st - Prepare to Swab the Deck!

We're excited to introduce a brand-new weapon -- the Cannon Swab! It may look like a giant cotton swab but this harmless looking weapon is deceivingly powerful! In addition to helping you clean your ship (you've heard of "swabbing the deck"), the Cannon Swab can be used to significantly slow down your cannon attacks and reduce waxy buildup. To acquire the Cannon Swab you must first finish the Cannonball Quest Run. Using the Cannon Swab will earn you a Cannon Loading Skill. Here's how it works:

To use your Cannon Swab at sea, follow this simple 6 step process:

  1. Address the cannon for inspection. For example, "Greetings Mr. Cannon, I will now inspect you." Once you've addressed the cannon, make sure the cannon is clean, and empty (this goes without saying but never stick your head inside a cannon). To clean the cannon, "swab" the bore. (To find the bore, refer to the owner's manual that came with your cannon.)
  2. Pack your charge using the Cannon Swab. Do not "double load" the cannon, as double loading the cannon will make a MUCH louder and MUCH larger explosion than a regular single load.
  3. Load black powder into the barrel using the Cannon Swab, making sure to push the powder all the way into the bore. To see if the powder is set properly -- a torch or match can be used to help illuminate the cannon bore (you may want to get your first mate to do this...).
  4. (If you or your first mate are still alive after step 3) Load the charge and the cannonball, again using the Cannon Swab. (Be careful not to drop the cannonball on your foot. If the tip of the Cannon Swab gets caught in the cannon, use Doc Grog's Cannon Crud Remover® to clean it.
  5. Make sure the area in front of the cannon is clear and that Jack the Monkey hasn't crawled inside (or don't). Swing the Cannon Swab in a circle above your head, yelling, "Preparing to fire the cannon! Preparing to fire the cannon!" (Remember, during battle, it is proper Pirate etiquette to do this three times.)
  6. Using the igniter, light the fuse to fire the cannon. Now secure your first mate and any other loose articles that may have shifted when you fired a double-loaded cannon (because we know you didn't follow Step 2).

To attack Navy Guards and other NPCs using the Cannon Swab, set the weapon in attack position and begin swabbing!

New Weapon CannonSwab

Other great uses for the Cannon Swab:

  • "Swabbing" the deck

  • Polishing barnacles

  • "Bonking" Navy Guards and EITC soldiers on the head

  • Limbo contest during long sea journeys

March 27th - EVENT - Rowdy Rooster Celebration

Successful attacks on EITC fleets have given Pirates a reason to celebrate!

Join us in the Rowdy Rooster on Port Royal to celebrate the recent victories! We'll sing sea shanty songs and talk of future EITC attacks.

When: Saturday, March 28. 11 AM - 2 PM (Pacific Time)

Where: The Rowdy Rooster, Port Royal (Oceans: Esquada, Esquago, Esquira, Eustabia, Eustaros, Exubia, Exuma)

NOTE: This is a role playing event. Pirates Online GMs will be in character and talking only about the event. During the event, please be respectful to your fellow pirates - DO NOT participate in disruptive behavior and STOW YER WEAPONS.

March 26th - The Battle Continues!

Taking the fight directly to the EITC, this past weekend GMs and Founders led crews in raids on EITC ships off the island of Padres Del Fuego. Our thanks to Dracon, Grace Goldeagle, Lawrence Swordhawk, Achilles, Pretty Polly and other Founders who led crews to go after EITC ships.

The battle continues this Friday, March 27 when we will assemble again to sink EITC ships and show that the Pirates of the Caribbean are a force to reckon with! Join us for the battle.

Still, the EITC continues to gather fleets around Padres, leading many Pirates to believe that the island may be the next to be attacked by the Company. Recently, the EITC have been seen hiding explosives in caves on Padres, similar activity was seen in the days before old Port Royal and old Tortuga were destroyed.

March 26th - EVENT - Founders and GMs Recruiting Crews

This Friday, March 27 join GMs from the Marceline Guild and Founders from all over the Caribbean in a show of force as we assemble crews to take the fight directly to the EITC!

The EITC continues to deny that they've been planning an all-out attack on the Pirates of the Caribbean. Still, EITC forces are growing and recently Pirates have noticed suspicious activity (like that seen in the days before the destruction of old Port Royal and old Tortuga) near Padres Del Fuego!

Prepare for battle mates, and good luck - you'll need it!

When: 4PM - 6PM PST, Friday, March 27

Where: On the beaches of Devil's Anvil (Oceans: Caicaba, Caicama, Caicaux, Caicos, Caicumal)

NOTE: This is a role playing event. Pirates Online GMs will be in character and talking only about the event. During the event, please be respectful to your fellow pirates - DO NOT participate in disruptive behavior and STOW YER WEAPONS, save your strength for the EITC.

March 19th - Rascal? Scoundrel? Villian or Knave? Tell Us Your Tale

Meet Xavier "The Henchman" Hench. He gets the job done, no matter what the task. As the first mate of Captain Walter and a proud member of the Marceline guild, Xavier is quick witted and always eager to help his crewmates.

While Xavier keeps most of his past private, he readily admits to being "born on a Pirate ship." Truth is, he's spent practically his whole life at sea, his knowledge of the ocean is more than evident when in battle or just chasing the wind. When he has free time, he enjoys anchoring a dinghy on the backside of Tortuga to fish.

What's your story?

March 19th - PiratesOnline.com Gets Extreme Makeover

Based on your feedback, we've improved the website to make it easier to find information about the game and discuss it with other players.

Icon on website
In addition to the exciting new look, you'll notice that the news section and the Grog Blog have been merged, so now you can comment directly on news items. We've also added other new sections to make the site a true destination for all things Pirates Online! But this is just the first phase as Pirates Online will keep getting better! In the coming weeks and months you'll see more sections introduced, columns from famous Pirates and Pirate profiles put you in the spotlight!

Is there something you'd like to see on the site that we didn't include? Tell us what you think of the new site!

March 17th - Green Seas - Irish Items

Thanks to Pirates like Shamus O' Malley and Captain Walter of the Marceline guild, we're happy to report the EITC won't be shipping any green dyes or inks to Europe this spring. In fact, the Caribbean's resources are staying in the islands as several shipments of EITC cargo were recently raided and barrels of dye and ink were "commandeered" for the Caribbean shop keepers.

For a limited time, visit Ink Parlors for Irish-themed tattoos and Barbers for green hair! Looking for a party? Then join our GMs in-game Tuesday, March 17th on Saint Patrick's Day from 12-2PM and 4-6PM (all times Pacific) when we?ll be celebrating in taverns and towns all over the Caribbean!

Noticed something different about the sea?

March 13th - Where in the Caribbean is Shamus O' Malley?

Looking for Shamus O' Malley? Remember, Shamus doesn't like large crowds, look for him off the beaten path or in shops, or lonely beaches. When you do find Shamus, greet him and then whisper the secret phrase. Have a pen and paper handy, Shamus will whisper you a code that can be redeemed in-game for gold! Be quick - Shamus looks to spread his fortune with many Pirates (only on St. Patrick's Day) and will be off before you know it!
Icon stpattys
How to use Shamus' code for gold:

1) Hit 'Enter' to open the chat window.
2) Type /code in the chat window followed by the code Shamus gives you. Example: /code 1234567891234567
3) Hit 'Enter' again to redeem
4) If done correctly, you'll see a notice appear that the code has been redeemed successfully and your gold amount will increase.

March 13th - Spring Blooms, Seas Turn Green

We welcome spring to the Caribbean and with it a mysterious green algae that blooms in the waters surrounding the islands. Legend has it that algae bloom is an omen of things to come - that green seas attract large sea creatures, like whales and giant squids.

Some though say it was the Irish Pirate Shamus O' Malley - not algae - that turned the sea green. Shamus it seemed couldn't bear to see the green inks and dyes intended for the Caribbean Saint Patrick's celebration shipped off to Europe. So he and other pirates raided EITC ships and dumped their cargos of ink and dyes into the ocean (saving enough for the shopkeepers, of course).

March 9th - Send Us a Sea Shanty and Sing Along!

To keep Pirates from tiring of the same old routine, a captain or deckmaster will lead a crew in a "call and response" song - or sea shanty. The tradition comes from Europe where Irish, British and French sailors sing songs to excite their crews. Sea shanties help coordinate work on deck and keep crews entertained during long voyages.

Do you have a song in your heart? Then send us your sea shanty! Here's an example:

Shanty
Pull the rope! Haul the line!
(Chorus) The tide be with us! And just in time!
Pull the rope! Haul the line!
(Chorus) Captain bringin' us home just fine!

We're looking for ORIGINAL SONGS that you may have sung with your mates while at sea or adventuring. Submissions will be taken until March 20, be sure to include your Pirate name, guild and level for proper credit.

March 3rd - Tortuga Tours

Tour the Town, See the Sights!

Still finding your way around the new Tortuga? We're here to help. Join us this Friday, March 6 from 11 AM - 2 PM Pacific Time and tour the town with the Pirates Online GMs.

Join us this Friday, March 6 from 11 AM - 2 PM Pacific Time for Tortuga Tours. We'll be roaming the oceans that begin with the letter B, meeting Pirates, and showing them the town. You'll hear stories about the people and places, plus get some insight on the changes and how the EITC may play a role.

NOTE: This is a role playing event, Pirates Online GMs will be in character, and talking only about the new Tortuga. During the event, please be respectful to your fellow pirates on the tour - DO NOT USE WEAPONS or participate in disruptive behavior.

Something's afoot in the Caribbean. Townsfolk all over the islands are talking about the recent events and what they may mean.

Your mission: Travel to the various islands and talk to the townsfolk. See what information you can get out of them then return here to the Grog Blog and tell us: What plots have you discovered? What do you think it all means? Who gave you the best information?

Keep an eye to the Lore to see if your suspicions are confirmed.

February 13th - Ship Naming Contest

Admin logo
We're expanding the Shipwright's Ship Naming Menu! Until March 6, 2009 you have a chance to suggest a name to be added to the Ship Naming Menu. A Ship holds a special place in every Pirates heart and naming a ship is just as important as choosing one.

To submit a name, just post below, keeping within these guidelines: Names must be original and in good taste. Be sure to include your in-game Pirate name, your level and Guild name (if you have one) so you get proper credit. Winners will be added to the Shipwright's naming menu.

Update: Due to an overwhelming response (our best ever to any Grog Blog entry!), we cannot post all the ship suggestions here on the blog. But keep them coming! We are still collecting all your great ideas until March 6th!.

January 30th - Known Issues

We hope you had a chance to check out the new Port Royal! We made a lot of changes and we know there are some issues in the recent release, and we are working to resolve them. For instance, we know that the text describing emotes is not showing up in chat. We are currently working on a fix.

Also, if the game exits when clicking on another pirate (or a friend in the friend's panel), try changing your Graphic Options to DirectX 9 in the Game Launcher Window:

Thanks to all the Pirates that signed up for the Feats of Strength Competition. The response has been overwhelming! THANK YOU! Many, many Pirates are set to compete. Thanks for your patience as we worked to complete the schedule!

The competition consists of several challenges. Pirates must complete all challenges as fast as they can, in order, following the course routes. All competitors must read the rules and event challenges BEFORE competing - if you have not done so already, please review the course and challenges! Pirates that finish the race without completing all challenges or do not follow the rules will be disqualified. Please arrive at your assigned ocean (server) early! We have many competitors and schedules are very tight - sorry but late contestants or no-shows will not be able to participate. Competitors were scheduled on a first-come basis. If you do not see your name posted, it's most likely because you are being scheduled for next week's event, January 30-31, 2010.

January 15th - Feats of Strength Overview

All contestants should read these rules and familiarize yourself with the event challenges before the event.

The Feats of Strength Contest consists of three separate challenges. Pirates must complete all three challenges as fast as they can, in order, following the course routes. Pirates that finish the race without completing all task are disqualified.

Refer to the schedule posted here for your competition time. Please arrive at your designated ocean (server) early! Late contestants or no-shows will not be able to participate.

Please Note: All Pirates are welcome to watch the event from the beach or docks of Tortuga, but be respectful of your fellow Pirates competing in the Feats of Strength Contest. Please don't block the course route, use weapons during the contests or interfere with the contestants.

Challenge 1: 3 Laps around TownTortuga 1

The race begins with 3 laps, as Pirates run counter-clockwise around the town of Tortuga.

Challenge 2: Swim the BeachTortuga 2

After the footrace, Pirates swim the length of the beach. Pirates will go straight from the footrace to the swimming challenge without stopping. Please note the start of the swimming challenge - Pirates must swim around the Shipwright.

Challenge 3: Defeat 1 Crocodile

Tortuga 3

Pirates will swim to the Jail, then defeat 1 crocodile. After defeating the crocodile, the first player to race back to the GM in front of the Jail wins. There are prizes for first, second and third, so don't stop until you finish the race!

January 14th - New Port Royal on Test

Something's going on in the Caribbean. Specifically Port Royal, where in the coming days, the town will be changed by a cataclysmic event - and what will rise from the rubble will be a completely NEW Port Royal. What do you think of the images of the new town?

January 9th - Live the Pirate's Life Contest

Due to popular demand, we've decided to extend the Contest deadline to February 15, 2009 and allow you buccaneers the opportunity to send us more great videos of how you live like a Pirate!

January 8th - Pirate New Year's Resolutions

In 2009, the Pirates Online Crew is cutting back on the bacon and the drinking. (Does coffee count as drinking?) We're building a ton of new features and exercising our Pirates. (Captain Walter seems to be getting a little soft around the middle and needs to level up that cutlass!) What are you doing to get in shape - what arrrr your Pirate's New Years Resolutions?
