Shipwrights

A pirate without a ship is like a ship without a rudder, considering that the act of piracy is the theft of or theft onboard ships.

To that end, Shipwrights are the men and women who build and maintain the many pirate and privateer vessels that plow these waters. They can be found on all the main islands and privateer islands.

Visiting a Shipwright[]

Shipwrighticon

Shipwrights are located in the most unique and noticeable structures; an upended ship's hull right on the beach.

To talk to a shipwright, just approach their counter and press SHIFT.

An interactive menu will appear. Just click on what you wish to do.

Ship Rename 1
  • Quest - If the Shipwright has a quest for you, this option will be available, otherwise it will be grayed out.
  • Purchase - Buy a new ship. If you have the maximum number of ships, this option will be grayed out.
  • Repair - Fix up your leaky ships. If all your ships are fully repaired, this option will be grayed out.
  • Upgrade - Improve your full-size or war class ship's hull, sail color, sail emblem and rigging.
  • Rename (TLOPO Only) - Give your old ship a new name from the Ship Name Menu.
  • Sell - Sell off an old ship (at a greatly reduced sale price).
  • Bribe - If you need to grease the shipwright's palm as part of quest. If you have no current quest, this option will be grayed out.

Shipwrights of the Caribbean[]

On the shore of the main islands, the shipwright's stand can be clearly seen as the large, upright ship's bow. Some new shipwrights have also set up shop right by the water.

Buying a Ship[]

All pirates start with a Light Sloop. But, other classes of vessel are made available as the pirate's Sailing skill increases.

Game Note - In the original Pirates Online, Free-to-Play players could only have Light Class Ships.

Just pick the ship of your choice, as long as you have the gold and skill.

Sometimes referred to as interceptor class. These are the four ships you can purchase from the start of the game, until you reach Sailing Skill Level 5 - then you can buy standard ships. These vessels all have limited cargo space, only a few guns and very little armor. However, they are very maneuverable and quite affordable for the beginning buccaneer.

Basic Access pirates could only purchase Light Class ships and these vessels are not able to be Customized or Upgraded.

Light Sloop
Deck of Light Sloop

This is the first vessel a pirate can own, and the first is given to them by Elizabeth Swann and Darby Drydock at no charge. They are very small, with only minimal armor and a couple of guns. But, they are very fast and maneuverable and hard to hit. It has one deck gun on each side and three broadside cannons on each side. Some pirates choose this ship in privateering since it is so agile, and extremely difficult to hit and quick to repair.

Ship Profile

Light Galleon
Deck of Light Galleon

These small Galleons give a beginning pirate a load of cargo space. It has the toughest hull out of all light class ships. The Light Galleon is also the slowest out of all light class ships. It has two deck guns on each side and five broadside cannons on each side.

Ship Profile

(*)The original Pirates Online Hull & Sail values denoted in parentheses.

Light Frigate
Deck of Light Frigate

These agile ships give a beginning pirate a good ship for plundering with a little more punch with eight topside guns. This ship also has 10 broadside cannons.

This ship can be used for privateering as it is a smaller target to hit. And with it's forward guns, makes it more deadly than a Light Sloop in SvS.

Ship Profile

Untitled picture11111

These ships contain a mixture of the characteristics of the other three ship types. This type of ship can also be bought by a Basic Access member. This ship contains the speed of a light sloop, the armor of a light frigate and the cannons of a light galleon.

Ship Profile

Also referred to as Merchant class, these vessels are all larger, improved versions of the Light Class, holding more cargo, crew and carrying more armament and armor. They become available at any shipwright at Sailing Skill 5.

The Sloop

The fastest and most maneuverable ship class, the Sloop is ideal for scouting and hit-and-run attacks. However, Sloops tend to have weak armor and little cargo room. The strongest armor of the hull is located near the middle of the ship, though a weakness is at the rear and the front. They have three deck cannons on each side and five broadside cannons on each side. They're also fishing vessels if you look at the fishing boat while fishing.

Ship Profile

The Galleon

Galleons have the toughest armor among the ship classes. They can also carry the most cargo. The strongest armor of the hull is located near the rear of the ship with its weakness towards the front. This merchant Galleon is armed with nine broadsides each side and has four deck cannons on each side. Overall it is a good option for those who want large plunder but can't use or afford a war galleon.

Frigate
Deck of Frigate

Frigate class vessels pack the most firepower, and sporting many cannons and strong below-deck broadsides. The strongest part of the hull is near the front and the weakest near the back. It has five deck guns on each side and seven broadside cannons on each side.

Ship Profile

Fishing boats are used only for fishing. They do not have any broadside cannons or cannons on deck. Fishing boats are not attacked by enemy ships, as they are not doing anything illegal and do not pose a threat. Ramming Speed, Take Cover, and Open Fire can not be used on a fishing boat.

Fishing Sloop

Ship Profile

  • Armor: 4,800
  • Sails: 6,000
  • Cannons: 0 (6 Fishing Stations)
  • Broadsides: 0 (Removed)
  • Cargo: 10 slots (Unused)
  • Crew: 6 (5 + Captain)
  • Cost: Rental Only - 1,000 gold per launch, unlimited time on the water.

The largest, and the strongest class overall. These type of ships are available only for pirates with Sailing Skill 15 or higher. They can devastate entire formations of enemy ships at a time. These pack the most firepower and have the thickest armor and most cargo space, but also cost the most and cost a lot more to repair.

War Sloop
Deck of War Sloop

The fastest and most maneuverable warship, this heavier version of the Sloop carries a full broadside of guns, but just the same cargo capacity of a standard Galleon. These vessels are the favorite of pirates who battle in Privateer ship-to-ship (Ship PvP) combat due to their maneuverability and hard to hit hull. It has four deck cannons on each side and seven broadside cannons on each side.

Ship Profile

  • Armor: 7,200
  • Sails: 9,000
  • Cannons: 8
  • Broadsides: 14
  • Cargo: 14
  • Crew: 9
  • Cost: 20,000 gold
  • Resale Value: 10,000 gold

Deck of War Galleon

This fully armored and armed galleon is a sight to behold; extremely intimidating, from her large prow and tall sails, to her twenty-four broadside cannons and ten deck guns. Only a War Frigate has more pure firepower, and that's only with a full crew. The War Galleon is favored by pirates on plunder runs, since it has the biggest cargo capacity.

Though bigger than a War Frigate, its cannons have a narrower firing angle. The ship is slower, holds fewer crew and it is less maneuverable than its War Sloop and War Frigate counterparts.

Ship Profile

  • Armor: 14,600 (Up from 10,800*)
  • Sails: 14,000 (Up from 10,000*)
  • Cannons: 10
  • Broadsides: 24
  • Cargo: 18
  • Crew: 10
  • Cost: 40,000 gold
  • Resale Value : 20,000 gold

(*)The original Pirates Online Hull & Sail values denoted in parentheses.

Historical Fact - In the late 1500's a Spanish armada was sent to invade England, many ships were lost to a storm, but many of the surviving ships were galleons, proving how formidable the ship class can be.

War Frigate
Deck of War Frigate

These massive armored vessels are floating fortresses and one of the most deadly ships a pirate can possess. Bristling with cannons on every deck, these ships also have widest firing angle of any vessel afloat, though there are none that can shoot directly aft, so watch out for any enemies that may try to sneak up on you. Unlike other warships, two cannons can shoot directly forward. It has seven deck guns on each side and 10 broadside cannons on each side.

The War Frigate is often preferred for Privateering with large crews due to the ample number of deck guns. With a full crew complement, a single war frigate can decimate scores of enemies in its path.

Ship Profile

  • Armor: 12,600
  • Sails: 12,000
  • Cannons: 14
  • Broadsides: 20
  • Cargo: 16
  • Crew: 12
  • Cost: 60,000 gold
  • Resale Value: 30,000 gold

Catalog War Brig

These ships contain a mixture of the characteristics of the other three ship types. This ship was released with the Ship Customization update. It's speed is close to that of a War Sloop, armor similar to a War Frigate, and broadside power of a War Galleon.

Ship Profile

  • Armor: 12,000
  • Sails: 11,000
  • Cannons: 12
  • Broadsides: 24
  • Cargo: 16
  • Crew: 12
  • Cost: 80,000 gold
  • Resale Value: 40,000 gold

Renaming a Ship[]

In The Legend of Pirates Online, a feature was added to allow pirates to rename their ship.

Select the Rename Option from the Menu.

Ship Rename 2

Select the Ship to Rename. Then, select the new name from the original Ship Name menu. Click Submit.

The Shipwright will prompt a reminder that Rename comes at a cost.

Ship Rename 3

The prices for Rename are similar to the costs a Trainer charges to reset your skills. So, while trying to keep the Navy guessing where to find you, the price will go up.

  • First Rename - 250 gold
  • Second Rename - 2,500 gold
  • Additional Rename - 10,000 gold

Selling a Ship[]

At some point, a pirate may outgrow an old ship, need some quick gold, or want to trade up. From the Options Menu, click Sell - then select from your ship menu. The game will ask if you're sure that you wish to sell. Then you will sell the ship for half the price that you bought it for (you will not credit for any Ship Customization).

Once a ship is sold, it must be re-purchased at full price. Shipwrights don't haggle.

Sell Price[]

War Brig 40,000

Repairs[]

Pirates always seem to bring their ships back with torn sails, cannonball holes, fire damage - you name it. Shipwrights are the quickest place where a vessel can be repaired. After all, you want it done fast, take it to the experts.

Note - Always best to check your ship's health before departure. Repairing is much cheaper, than salvaging a wreck.

From the Options Menu, select Repair. Your ships will be listed, showing the ship's damage status. Click Repair. A pop-up will show how much it will cost in gold to fix your ship or salvage a sunken one.

Note - If you do not have enough gold, you CANNOT do a partial repair.

If the vessel is perfect condition, the Repair button will be grayed out.

Ship Customization[]

Pirates can choose to Customize their ship at the upgrade menu from any shipwright. Players can change their sail color, and put an emblem on their sail. Players are also able to have special Hulls and Rigging, that can only be upgraded if the player has a certain amount of resources and gold.

Shipwright Quests[]

Often, a shipwright will ask a pirate to perform a Fortune Quest for them - with gold rewards for their efforts.

Darby Drydock initially sends the pirate on quests for materials for a ship he's building. Also, several shipwrights offer the Caribbean Struggle quest for Ship PvP.

Mini-Games[]

Shipwrights offer pirates a chance to earn some pocket money repairing vessels for them. Stationed around each Shipwright stand are three repair tables, marked with signs. These signs indicate the difficulty of the repairs needed.

Easy Medium Hard
Easy Table Medium Table Hard Table

Each table allows the pirate to practice their ship repair skills. There are five games to challenge a Shipwright-in-Training

The Repair Mini-game Menu will appear. To complete repairs, the pirates must finish all the challenges:

Once the jobs are complete, the ship's hull and sails will be repaired. The pirate will be told what their total time was and the amount of gold they earned. The game will reset as another ship pulls up for repairs.

The pirate can press ESC at any time to stop repairing.

Removed Ship Types[]

On the Test Server, six new ships, the Ship of the Line, the EITC Warlord, the Undead Cerberus, the Phantom, the Revenant, and the Navy Kingfisher, were briefly added for purchase before being removed. Later, the game developers explained that this was a mistake and was never intended for release.
