Tank is general Online Game term. It applies to game play, particularly in respect to crew and guild dynamics. In Pirates Online, game mechanics to support this class are not as prominent as in other games, but the role itself is played nonetheless.
Definition (Noun)[]
A high-level pirate with an abundance of health who protects lower-level pirates from larger, more imposing enemies by engaging them first. Doing so allows the weaker pirates to defeat enemies who are several levels higher than them, and reap larger rewards.
Tanks enable these newer characters to build notoriety levels faster while lowering the risk of them being quickly defeated easily by stronger opponents.

To act as a tank and protect lower-level pirates from stronger enemies by drawing the enemies's aggression to themselves and taking the brunt of their assaults.

- The AI in Pirates Online used to have enemies attack whatever pirate it saw first, but as of now they alternate between all pirates dealing damage to them. This makes tanking more difficult, but can be remedied by the tank using the Taunt skill, keeping the enemy's focus on them.
